Hoher Dachstein - B
Elevation: 250m / Lenght: 500m
Approach: 25min / Duration: 1h
Rating: 3/5
Dachstein is a very famous massif in the Austrian Alps, so I'm actually quite surprised that it's one of the last areas I've been to. But my destination was not Dachstein as such, but the highest peak Hoher Dachstein. We skipped the popular tourist attractions of the Hängenbrücke, the ice sculptures and the Stairway to Nothingness and went straight over the Hallstätter Gletcher glacier to the top.
Walking on snow in the summer is quite an experience in itself, even more so when it's this gigantic amount. It probably won't surprise you that it's not the best to walk on, and it's quite a struggle to reach the start of the B ferrata. Friend Lucas decided not to go up and we'd better meet at the cable car in a couple of hours. So I went up on my own.
I was hoping to catch some views, it was supposed to be pretty much cloudless by 12 o'clock, but by 11 o'clock I couldn't see a step and I walked the whole ferrata in the cloud, nothing changed at the top and so I didn't actually see anything the whole time. I wasn't happy about it, but the important thing is that I scrambled up and I can say I was there.
