Attersee - D/E
Elevation: 600m / Lenght: 870m
Approach: 30min / Duration: 3h
Rating: 5/5
So far one of the most challenging ferratas I have ever climbed. Probably due to several rescues and rockfall in the area, the ascent section was modified and the difficulty was changed to D/E section. It works as a great sieve for inexperienced ferraters. If you're having a lot of trouble with the first section, turn around and walk away, the ferrata is really long and gave me quite a workout in some passages, both physically and mentally.
From the 8th section, you climb more or less only on the cramp until the 15th. There are not many places to rest. Just when you think the worst is over, after you manage the overhang of difficulty D, you are greeted at first sight by an endless wall full of difficulty C. Below you is a few hundred meters of empty space and the blood starts to freeze in your veins, it's a real experience .
The rest of the route is a "easy" by comparison and the last section of difficulty D was a power climb of about 2 or 3 steps, you grab the rope and you're up right away. I climbed most of the way in the shade or the sun was under a cloud, but the wall would be pretty heated in the afternoon and I wouldn't go up there without at least 2 litres of water! I had less than a litre with me and the last hour I walked the descent completely dry.
