The first steps of our August trip to Bavaria-Austria Alps was to the famous Partnachklamm rock gorge, located near the Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can park near the gorge in the parking lot of the Olympic Stadium. Route to the gorge is on an asphalt road and takes about half an hour.

As usual, I recommend sturdy shoes and waterproof clothing. It's quite cold in the gorge and in the afternoon there are crowds of visitors. You may find quite a long queue at the ticket office, after all, this is one of the most famous gorges in Germany. I recommend going as soon as it opens or later in the afternoon.

Since I've already been to a few dozen gorges in the Alps, I can safely say that I've seen nicer, but this one is worth a visit on the other hand. As you can see in the photos, there's always a nice photogenic spot somewhere. Half an hour later you're done and on the circular route back to the car park. The way back is very nice and there are some interesting places. If you have all day and want to walk around a bit more, you can go up to to King's House on Schachen, it could be an interesting hike.
