There is a second Tre Cime in Italy, called Tre Cime di Bondone, and it is located just a short distance from Lago di Garda. These are the peaks of Monte Bondone (2180m) , Dos Abramo (2140m) and Cima Verde (2102m).
Our route was originally supposed to take us over all 3 peaks but due to the weather not being on our side, we skipped Monte Bondone and went straight to the summit of Dos Abramo, which from the looks of it seemed like the best choice. There is no other way to get to the summit than via ferrata, either A/B or D/E difficulty. I was a bit surprised, I thought there was a normal hiking trail to the summit, but that was not the case. We climbed up without belay via the A/B ferrata. It was a short section that can be safely climbed in 2 minutes.
Just as we reached the cross, thick clouds loomed around us and there was absolutely nothing to see. David called it a refrigerator simulator. It was quite disappointing as it was supposed to be one of the TOP views of the Italian Alps, hopefully you will have better luck.
The hike along the ridges between the peaks is fun in itself and you can enjoy the beautiful views all around (we didn't). Remember, the whole circuit will take you a few hours and your legs don't want to walk very far the next day.
At the top of the Cima Verde, you can take some interesting scenery photos and then it's just a steep trail down. I would recommend this trail as more of an ascent. In the forest you walk on sharp rocks and slippery roots. David slipped about a thousand times here and said it was probably the worst path he had ever been down.
The QR code will link you to our route along Tre Cime di Bondone in the app Mapy.cz (better than Google maps).
